In case anyone was wondering, I am (perhaps surprisingly) not vehemently anti these Lindsay Lohan photos by Bert Stern copying his final photo shoot with Marilyn. I know, I know, I hate hate HATE LiLo, but that's not the point. All these so-called Marilyn "purists" are saying it besmirches her memory and other such tripe. They seem to be forgetting the fact that Norma Jeane was an emotionally and mentally unstable starlet, addicted to drugs and alcohol, prone to self-destructive behavior, public indescretion, and not wearing underwear. Sound familliar? Marilyn, in her day, shocked her world more than Ms. Lohan could EVER shock ours. I don't know if Lindsay reads Joyce on the sly, or has desperate aspirations to play Grushenka one day, but I'm sure she has depths nearly equal to those of Norma Jeane that nobody cares to acknowledge.

That's something that's been bothering both Owen and me lately, every time we read an article about Sweeny Todd, they unfailingly make some dumbfuck comment about how there's like, no possible crossover between musical fans and horror fans... and we just sit there dumbfounded, like.... um, hello, us????? And tons of people we know.... wtf? They're SO not mutually exclusive. They make these ridiculous comparisons, saying things like oh, you'll never see adherents of Cannibal Holocaust lined up around the block for Les Mis tickets... BULLSHIT. It's very irritating and stereotyping and so I just wanted to see how it stacks up round here.

Honeymoon pics!

Loverly wedding narrative description thingy!

The wedding. It was a
clear sunny day. August 10, 2006. When we all first began
to arrive on the future Mason home property, it was sunny and quite
warm. Before we left after the sun went down, it was quite cool!
That is the way it is in the Teton Valley.

A gazebo had been set up on
one side of the area to be used. After the ceremony, lights were
turned on around the top. Tulle ribbons of many colors were floating
from the top because of the breeze. The screen house was set up
on the opposite side. It was decorated with small colorful flags
on the outside and pretty drapes on the inside. That is where
Patience stayed until the ceremony began. No way was Owen to see
her yet!

A wide fabric strip was laid
for the wedding party to walk on. Now – I cannot remember the
exact order of everything. I was too busy thinking and watching.
I do know Aaron asked our Lord’s blessing on the couple’s marriage
that would take place. Tim led the closing prayer. In between,
one of the family friends played Amazing Grace
on her flute. That was beautiful. Bruce played a familiar
melody on the bagpipes but I do not know which it was. As I understand
it, Patience had picked particular songs for her walk down the aisle.
They were played through an amplifier.

The wedding party: Thom
Allaway, Owen’s brother, was his best man. Patience picked Curt,
Meg (Owen’s sister), Jessica (Tim’s girl friend), Libby and Aspen
to attend her. I hope I left no one out. They formed
a semi-circle behind where the bride and groom would stand – facing
the audience. That was Patience’s wish – so we could watch
the couple’s faces, not their backs. I liked that. Bruce
walked Patience down the aisle. She had a beautiful smile on her
face. The mayor of Driggs (whose back we did see) performed the
ceremony. The two exchanged vows and rings. Then rather
than one kiss – I believe I counted four as they whispered to each
other!

One of their friends
from Driggs then performed an Indian pipe ceremony. First she
began with a brief history of the ceremony as we stood in a circle.
Then prayers were offered to the four directions, mother earth, father
sky and then the seventh. I had remembered reading that the seventh
was the wind. She gave it as all the animals, birds, etc., on
earth. It was impressive. The pipe was passed to be either
smoked or touched to our shoulders.

After that, we formed a different
large circle. I was on the very opposite side of that circle
and did not hear the actual words of the toast nor what Owen said in
response. I do not know if anyone was recording it. I hope
so, and if anyone did, may I please have a copy? Patience followed
explaining that she had chosen a weekday for her wedding because it
was the first year after her grandpa had passed away. She said
she felt his spirit was there with her and I believe she even said something
to his spirit about that because I heard her say, “from your graham
cracker,” his nickname for her. Bruce followed with some very nice
words about George also. By then, I was only half hearing.
I am sorry.

Cathy had made the wedding
cake. It was beautiful and delicious. Then, there was the
groom’s cake with the Batman symbol on top. Everyone was happy
and talking as they ate. I did not stay for the dancing.
I opted to go back to the motel when David took Mona. It was getting
pretty cold. Then he went back to help drive people who needed
transportation. I have seen only one picture of Aaron dancing
– neat. I do not remember who had it on the camera but I would
love to have that picture and any others showing what a good time was
had by all.

The following morning, Wayne
and Christine left on the way to Oregon. Jen, Richard, Meg and
Thom left. Their friends from Canada left. David, Mona, Tim,
Aaron and Jessica left. Suddenly I was alone at the Best Western.
I had great memories and relived them over and over – still do, in
fact.

We just went and got married.

Mountains all around; sunset. The one-legged mayor in his wheelchair bumped over the vole trails and we exchanged rings. The peace pipe was passed around so we'd have the blessing of the spirits of the seven directions. The sun went down, the moon came up full over the mountains. We watched it rise and I saw my first shooting star. Orbital's version of the Doctor Who theme rang across the valley in the dark.

And there was cake.

Yeah, it went well.

Now we're at Mrs Allaway's parents' house and she's grabbing stuff before we get taken to the airport.
